I wanted to go ahead and get the “nope” out of the way before I try to dissect your question here. I agree that Ed has gotten more attention lately - that’s sort of a major point in his line of work, trying to reach the widest audience possible and all that. It’s been a goal since the beginning, and I’m so pleased that it’s happening for him now! But what do you mean about fame going to his head? Like, what exactly are you asking…?
I remember Ed talking about the “douchebag pass” in interviews, which is what some famous people think they have. It’s just this free pass to be mean to others simply because other people aren’t as famous as they are, and everyone just accepts it because famous people can get away with anything. Is that what you’re talking about? Are you asking me if Ed thinks he has a douchebag pass now because he’s becoming more popular?
I’m sticking with nope. Because who has Ed been a douche to? No one. He is still just as kind as he has ever been, both to fans and to his friends. Celebrities. Radio DJs. Even paps. There are maybe four people in the entire world who have a bad thing to say about the boy, and that can be accounted for by their own immaturity and/or jealousy. In fact, I think a lot of the reason why Ed has been getting more attention lately - aside from his talent of course - is because he’s so nice to everyone. Everyone loves him.
Which brings me to the fact that he’s friends with some famous people. They love him as much as we do. Why does this bother you? I’m not sure how the relative popularity of his friends is at all related to anything “going to Ed’s head.” Ed likes nice people, and he likes to have fun. If the people are fun and nice, why not be friends with them? Making new friends when you’re in a new place is not a bad thing, and it is not the same thing as forgetting your old friends. It is the most normal thing in the world to form relationships with people who are having the same sort of experiences or living the same sort of lifestyle or know the same people as you. I’m glad that Ed has people that he likes to hang out with. (Although I will admit that it’s kind of annoying that I’m still getting news alerts about his Thanksgiving with Jennifer Aniston. Thanks internet, I know this happened. Please get over it.)
As for the way Ed dresses… who the hell cares? I’ll gladly encourage anyone to dress however they want to. I think most of us have established that we’ll be fans whether he wears a hoodie and jeans or a suit and tie. We’ve stuck around through “worst dressed” and “sexiest man alive” so why would you think what Ed wears has anything to do with anything at all? In fact, this may be the actual least important thing on earth.
The only other thing you mentioned is that he seems bored in interviews. I can’t really speak to that since I don’t know what interview you’re talking about. All I can say is that he seems normal to me, same old Ed giggling at his own inappropriate jokes and offering people gummy bears. :) I still quite enjoy his interviews.
So… that’s basically a big fat nope from me on fame going to his head or him becoming a douchebag or any of that nonsense.
Now, here’s a thing. People - other fans - have accused me before of deluding myself into thinking Ed’s some kind of perfect person, because I tend to defend him or rationalize his actions whenever someone makes a comment or asks a question along these lines. But I want you to know that I’m not just blindly following the guy and accepting everything he does because I think he can do no wrong. I’m perfectly capable of distinguishing between decent people and not decent people, but I just genuinely believe that Ed is decent people. That’s all it is, really. I pay attention, and I see a lot of things that maybe not everyone sees, public and private, and I know that Ed has made mistakes in the past — but all things considered, he is still, at the core, just a really fucking good guy. And I wouldn’t say that about him if I didn’t absolutely believe it. I wouldn’t say anything here if I didn’t feel like I could 100% stand behind it.
But I also think that if you really want to understand a person, you have to understand that the nature of people is that they change as they grow older. They change according to their own personal circumstances and experiences, and they change according to what the world tells them is socially acceptable. All of this is completely normal. You are not the same you that you were two years ago and neither is Ed. Changes like these are not always a bad thing. Sometimes change is a necessary thing. Sometimes a change is so subtle that you barely notice. But there are always some things that will never change, and I fully believe that the things that we love the most about Ed are the sorts of things that we will not ever have to worry about disappearing in order to make room for his success.
How can I put this? What is the simplest way?
When you watch a boy grow up, you are not losing the boy. You have not taken your eyes off him. I don’t know how to say it any better. He is still there. Just look.

so for my art project we had to fake a death/murder. for mine I did someone who had jumped off a building. when I was laying down while the picture was being taken, 7 people came running up to me asking if I was okay and if I needed an ambulance etc. I’ve been suicidal for a very long time, and the thoughts of jumping off buildings and ending my life have gone through my mind a thousand times. But the fact that people actually stopped and came running over to see if I was alright made me see that people do care, strangers care. so many people looked and walked past, but these 7 people some how took these suicidal feelings away… weird huh? But the moral of this story is that people do care about you, even people who don’t know who you are.
